Having worked with Ashley Dean of Broken Pixel on a few occasions now, I of course jumped at the chance to get involved with a new project of his.
A Devil on Each Shoulder is a short film which tells the story of a lovesick young man, determined to return to his one true love and who encounters two little devils whose influence leads him through a rather dark series of events… Teaming up with actor and writer Nick Blood, the film combines live action with stop motion animation and other effects. See the trailer here.
The project was successfully funded via Kickstarter, and as a reward for the backers as well as a unique gift to those involved in the film’s production, Ash commissioned me to design and print a silkscreen poster commemorating the film.
Ashley was very keen to see my interpretation of the ideas behind the film, so the brief was fairly unrestrained. I worked with a number of sketches before chosing the final composition, with it’s strong and memorable silhouettes. I was also aiming for a very slight 80’s horror movie vibe and wanted the whole thing to be bold and textured, referencing the gritty and dark tones to the film itself.
The artwork was created using brush and ink, arranged digitally, and the A2 posters were screenprinted by hand and signed and numbered.
