Myself and animator friend Ashley Dean (www.brokenpixel.co.uk) were commissioned by the Howard Assembly Room to put together an animation in order to raise interest and awareness of their forthcoming Opera North events.

Set to a section of the piece ‘La Campanella‘ by Franz Liszt, Ashley and I sat down together and came up with a treatment for the animation, breaking it up into scenes in order to create a sense of narrative, taking the viewer from the initial ‘little bell’, right through the inner workings of the piano, arriving at the final notes as played by the suited pianist.

This animation won the 2012 Royal Television Society, Yorkshire Centre Award for Animation.

You can see some of the process behind the design of the visual assets here.
