Here are some handy tips for caring for screen printed artwork:

FLATTENING

When prints are opened after being shipped or stored in the tube they will retain a noticeable curl from being rolled.

Simply gently unroll and place your print face down on a clean, flat surface and leave some heavy books on top for a few hours. Don’t be tempted to roll the print back on itself, just leave it to settle.

FRAMING

The general consensus is that it’s better to frame screen printed art with a mount as this keeps the print away from the surface of the glass/acrylic (where the ink can sometimes stick if exposed to changes in temperature or moisture over time). This mainly applies to glass frames. Modern acrylic frames are a lot more forgiving and I’ve personally not had any problems with dropping artwork straight into a frame, up against the acrylic.

For mounting and fancy framing options, the best option is to take work to a reputable framer but make sure you ask that the print not be taped or permanently fixed inside as this will damage the print if you ever want to remove it.

I personally order my own custom frames online from easyframe.co.uk. I’m not endorsed by them but I’ve used them for years, they’re affordable and I’ve always been happy with the service.

GENERAL CARE

When hanging your print, avoid areas with high moisture or direct sunlight.
