The Life & Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby
I was approached by the nice people at Bristol Old Vic Theatre to create some artwork for their production of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby.
First and foremost, the piece needed to function as a poster. However, as is often the case with marketing artwork, they also needed to produce bits and pieces for social media, web banners, smaller print adverts, etc. so I provided them with a layered Photoshop file that their in-house designers could arrange as needed.
Like much of Dickens’ work, the tale of Nicholas Nickleby runs the gamut of human emotion and experience – light and comedic one moment and fairly heartbreaking the next. I’ve tried to find a balance with the tone of the artwork, so it’s ultimately an heroic adventure story but is not short of it’s grittier aspects. We also went for an alternate yellow colour-scheme.
This was great fun to produce and it’s nice to see BOV using it across different platforms both in print and online.
